International cooperation

Nordic and European cooperation takes the form of sharing knowledge, experience and approaches to the treatment and development of congenital heart defects, as well as rehabilitation, information and peer-to-peer activities. This cooperation includes organising or participating in meetings and conferences organised by various partners.
Heart Children and Adults Association is actively involved in the European Congenital Heart Disease Organisation (ECHDO) and the European Congenital Heart Group (ECHG), the European working group for adults with congenital heart defects.
In cooperation with other Nordic sister organisations, Finnish organization for heart children and adults organises an annual Nordic camp for young heart patients, which has become very popular among young heart patients. Finnish organization for heart children and adults has also twice organised the International EuroHearts Conference for adults with congenital heart defects in Finland and has sent representatives to similar conferences in other countries. Other outputs resulting from this cooperation include various information materials, such as the book “From a heart child to an adult”, which was inspired by the Swedish organisation Hjärtebarnsboken and the establishment of Synja, the association’s national group for young and adult heart patients.
